Kirsten & Nicholas' Ohio Countryside Wedding

Kirsten & Nicholas' Ohio Countryside Wedding

For a horse lover, is there really a better way to celebrate a wedding than being on a ranch? Our beautiful bride Kirsten would say no. Some brides go for a luxury, modern venue, while others look for something surrounded by nature, and Kirsten couldn’t have picked a better venue than her family-owned horse ranch in Ohio's countryside. Kirsten loves horses, and Nicholas is a big fan of nature, so this was a perfect wedding venue for them to celebrate their union.

The bride and groom first had a traditional ceremony at the church and then moved their party to the ranch, surrounded by the people and things they loved the most. Away from the city hustle, this venue had it all - greenery, a rustic environment, and of course, plenty of space for everyone to have a great time. Kirsten and Nicholas chose me to be their wedding photographer, and I truly enjoyed the setting and how they had everything planned. There were just too many wonderful moments to photograph!

The day started at the salon, where Kirsten began getting ready for the wedding. Once she was ready, her hair and makeup immaculate, we moved to the church where her bridesmaids helped her with some finishing touches on her dress. At the church, I got the opportunity to play with the light coming in through the stained glass. I took some bridal photos in this setting, and the images turned out to be beautiful.

After this, it was time for the first look for Kirsten’s mom, which was such a touching moment. I took some mother-daughter photos as Kirsten’s mom looked at her lovingly. The set-up at the church was so elegant and sublime. Before the guests arrived, I took out the time to take photos of the venue and some detail shots of the florals and other decor elements at the church.

Nicholas got ready with his groomsmen. He wore a dark blue tux and looked absolutely charming. Like I did with Kirsten, I also got some great shots as the groom's getting ready session. The one where all groomsmen walked towards the camera with Nicholas at the center is my favorite.

Before the ceremony, Kirsten also had the first look with her dad, and it was such an emotional moment between the two. Even Nicholas was showered with love from his grandmom. Kirsten’s dad walked her down the aisle, and when I say you should have seen the look on Nicholas’s face, I mean, you should have seen him glowing with love for his bride!

After the ceremony, everyone moved to the expansive lush green ranch. Kirsten and Nicholas popped some champagne, and then everyone released balloons in honor of Nicholas’s grandparents' wedding anniversary. At the ranch, I took family formals and some super fun photos of the couple with their wedding party. I always encourage couples to bring in as many family members as possible, especially the furry ones! So, when their two adorable dogs joined Kirsten and Nicholas, it just gave me so much room to play around with their photos.

Nicholas and his gang were in just such a fun mood at the ranch. They were just messing around with each other and finding creative ways to have fun, and this involved driving around in what looked like a larger, more rustic version of a golf cart. Then, I came to one of my favorite moments of the day.

I love stealing away my couples on the wedding day. This way, they can finally spend some time with each other, and I can get close up with them and get some romantic couple portraits. These photographs naturally reflect so much love and warmth, and it’s always an honor for me to connect with my couples at a level where they will let me in. Kirsten and Nicholas held hands, hugged, and kissed each other, realizing they were finally husband and wife. Even though the colors in this setting were so lovely, I did add some black and white in the mix for the timeless, classic romance vibe. Another incredible thing happened when I spotted an old vintage car at the ranch. Naturally, my photographer’s instinct kicked in, and I just had to pose my bride and groom with that car. I can never say no to a vintage prop!

At the reception, Kirsten and Nicholas made their entry in style, each with a drink in their hands. Keeping up with tradition, the couple had a romantic first dance. Both of them were just beaming throughout their dance. The speeches were so heartwarming and funny. They had everyone, especially Kirsten and Nicholas, in (happy) tears. After this, Kirsten and Nicholas cut the cake, and Kirsten even got away with smearing some of it on Nicholas’ face. Before the dance floor was opened for guests, Nicholas had an endearing mother-son dance with his mom.
