Heather & Drew | The Wells Barn, Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens
Engagements are a special time for any couple. They mark the start of a new beginning, where they get to experience all the excitement and joy that comes with committing to being together forever. It's also the start of a promise to love and support each other through thick and thin, a promise they’ll make more fully at their wedding. And what could be more romantic than that? Heather and Drew chose to do their engagement session at The Wells Barn located at the Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens in Columbus, Ohio. Surrounded by gorgeous natural elements and a setting sun, Heather and Drew were both smiling and enjoying themselves throughout the entire session.
Heather and Drew’s Engagement Session
Talk about a picturesque location! A 12,000 square foot space, the Wells Barn facility is fresh and new and such a gorgeous location for photos! Housed at the Franklin Park Conservatory, it not only is a stunning spot for photos, but it serves the community as well as a performance, conference and event space and also offers programs and classes on wellness, gardening, art, cooking and more!
For Heather and Drew’s engagement photos, we started the session in the Conservatory, where we took stunning couple’s photos against the backdrop of the botanical gardens. As the sun began to set, it created a warm glow, making everything around look so magical. The two lovebirds posed like naturals in front of the camera. Heather looked absolutely beautiful in her green dress, which also complimented her gorgeous red hair, and Drew looked handsome in his casual outfit next to his loving fiancé.
Heather and Drew were so in love and couldn't stop looking at each other. The flowers, trees, and tall grasses in the background added to the aesthetics of their engagement photos, and I enjoyed taking the couple’s pictures during the golden hour as the sun set behind them. They looked into each other's eyes with such love, it was a truly touching moment to behold.
As a photographer, I love candids. When the couple gets genuine and real in front of me and I can capture those moments, the resulting images communicate their relationship in a way that posed photos almost never can. Sometimes, as a photographer, I have to coach couples into candid moments, and it starts by asking them to walk, hold hands, look at each other, dip…and as we began to make our way through the Conservatory to another spot, I photographed Heather and Drew doing all those things!
Drew dipped Heather elegantly under the lush green trellis, they laughed and smiled as they had fun. I also photographed the couple in one of the garden areas, under twinkling lights where Drew lifted Heather up into his arms like a knight in shining armor! So romantic!
We stopped at a few other spots for some posed photos and one of my favorites was when the couple sat down on a wooden bench together. Beaming with happiness, their expressions said it all – they were madly in love!
Last, I wanted to capture some photos after the sun had set with the couple, so I asked them to pose for some post-sunset silhouette pictures against the cloudy sky, which was a palette of blue and pink, creating an unforgettable backdrop for their photos. And then as the lights came on around the Conervatory and the Wells Barn, I was able to photograph some final images as they embraced and smiled at each other. It was so beautiful to witness their love firsthand.
