Unveiling the Magic: Professional Event Photographer Columbus Ohio at COSI Science Festival
One of the best parts of being an event photographer in Columbus, Ohio is getting to work with organizations that truly make a difference in the community. For me, COSI has been one of those special relationships. I was their official photographer for 13 years, and in that time, I’ve seen firsthand how they bring science to life in the most exciting, unexpected ways.
A standout example? The COSI Science Festival, which first launched in 2019—and I’ve had the privilege of photographing it every year since.
COSI Goes Big with Science
If you’ve ever been to a COSI event, you know they don’t do anything halfway. So when they announced the very first COSI Science Festival back in 2019, they kicked things off with a bang—literally. The launch event included outdoor science experiments (yes, with explosions), hands-on demos, interactive exhibits, and a great crowd of families, science lovers, and curious kids. Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther even stopped by to show his support.
From a photography perspective, it was nonstop action. There were kids wide-eyed at chemistry experiments, scientists tossing foam rockets into the sky, and crowds laughing, clapping, and getting hands-on with science. My job was to chase those moments—the expressions, the reactions, the in-between stuff that tells the real story.
Four Days of Curiosity and Community
The Science Festival isn’t just one big day—it’s a full four-day celebration spread all across Central Ohio. Local businesses, libraries, schools, and community centers all host their own science-themed events leading up to the grand finale outside COSI.
That final day is something special. Thousands of people gather on the Scioto Peninsula for a carnival-style science party. The skyline is the backdrop, there’s music, food trucks, stage shows, and enough interactive exhibits to keep every kid (and adult) entertained for hours.
It’s big. It’s colorful. It’s a blast to photograph.
And honestly, it’s one of my favorite events to shoot every year—not just because it’s fun, but because it brings people together around something meaningful.
Why It Matters to Me
Over the past 13 years working with COSI, I’ve come to know their mission inside and out. They care deeply about making science approachable and exciting. And through my photography, I get to help share that story with the community.
When I shoot an event like the Science Festival, it’s not just about documenting what happened—it’s about capturing how it felt. The awe, the joy, the surprise when something unexpected happens in a demo or when a kid figures something out for the first time.
That’s what great event photography is about: storytelling. And that’s why I love doing what I do.
