Why I Love Architectural Photography (And What Over a Decade of Shooting Has Taught Me)
Over the past fifteen years, I’ve had the absolute privilege of working with some incredibly talented people—contractors, real estate agents, architects, interior designers, developers—you name it. What started as a side interest in photographing buildings quickly evolved into one of my core specialties as a photographer.
There’s something about architectural photography that’s always drawn me in. It’s the clean lines, the way light interacts with surfaces, and the variety of shapes. I appreciate the stories these spaces tell—stories of hard work, vision, creativity, and collaboration. My job is to translate that into images. My wife told me years ago that my wedding images are very geometric. I’m sure that has something to do with why I enjoy shooting architecture so much.
Over the years, I’ve refined my techniques and developed a strong process for capturing spaces with precision and intention. That dedication has led me to some exciting opportunities on both a local and national level. I’ve had the honor of photographing projects for firms and designers like Carrie Livingston Designs, Kaufman Development, Legat Architects, Meyers and Associates, Schorr Architects, Crawford Hoying, and many others. Each project has challenged me in a different way, and I’ve learned something valuable from every shoot.
Below are some examples of a collaboration with Schorr Architects and Legat Architects in Columbus, Ohio. Public school that balanced innovation with real community impact. I spent the day photographing everything from sweeping exteriors to intimate interior details. What struck me most was how intentional every element was—from the material choices to the way the space functioned for the people who use it. It’s always a joy to work with architects who care deeply about the spaces they create.
For me, great architectural photography isn’t just about making something look good—it’s about telling the story of what went into it. And that’s especially important when working with real estate teams and developers. Good photos don’t just showcase a property—they help sell the idea of a lifestyle, a brand, or a vision. In today’s market, those visuals are often the first impression people get. I take that seriously.
I also believe that collaboration is key. I work closely with every client to understand what they’re trying to communicate. Do they want to highlight the flow of the space? The craftsmanship in the finishes? The connection to the surrounding environment? Once I have that understanding, I can approach the shoot with purpose and clarity.
At the end of the day, I genuinely love what I do. I love that I get to work in beautiful spaces, partner with incredibly creative people, and help bring their work to life through images. It’s challenging, rewarding, and always evolving—and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
If you’re an architect, designer, builder, or agent looking to document your next project, I’d be honored to work with you. Let’s make something great together.
